PSV’s (Pressure Safety Valves)

PSVs, or Pressure Safety and Relief Valves, are crucial safety devices in industrial systems that operate with pressurized fluids. Their primary function is to protect equipment, pipelines, and, most importantly, human lives, from the risks inherent to static overpressure conditions. Unlike VAPVs, which are specific to storage tanks and their pressure and vacuum dynamics, PSVs are applied in a wide range of process equipment, such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, reactors, and process lines, acting as the last line of defense against excessive pressure scenarios.

What are PSVs and Their Operating Principle?

A PSV (Pressure Safety Valve) is a valve that automatically opens when the pressure in the system reaches a predefined value (known as the set pressure), releasing the fluid to a lower pressure area, such as a flare line or a safe atmosphere. This opening is quick and complete, ensuring a high flow relief to efficiently depressurize the system. After the pressure returns to a safe level, the valve automatically closes, restoring the system’s seal. The precise design and calibration of PSVs are crucial to ensure they only operate when necessary, avoiding unnecessary disruptions to the operation.

Technical Specifications and Advantages:

Romão Tecnologias’ PSVs are designed and manufactured with the highest technology and in compliance with the most stringent international standards, such as API 520, API 526, and API 527, which govern the design, selection, installation, and testing of safety valves. This ensures that our products meet the highest performance and reliability standards.

Advantages and Differentiators of Romão PSVs

Our PSVs are designed for quick and precise operation, ensuring immediate relief of excessive pressure and minimizing the system’s exposure to dangerous conditions. Calibration is performed on certified test benches, ensuring the exact set pressure.

Each Romão PSV undergoes an extensive calibration and testing process at our facilities, which include flow and pressure test benches. This ensures that the equipment will operate with the precision and reliability expected in critical situations, providing complete peace of mind to our clients.

Romão Tecnologias offers PSVs with different design characteristics and materials, allowing for their application in a wide range of fluids (liquids, gases, vapors) and operating conditions (temperature, pressure, corrosiveness). This includes PSVs for general service, as well as models specifically designed for corrosive, cryogenic, or high-temperature applications.

Adherence to API standards and other global regulations not only ensures safety and performance but also facilitates the integration of our products into international projects and compliance with safety audits.

Built with high-strength materials and a robust design, Romão PSVs are designed for a long service life and to facilitate periodic maintenance and calibration processes, reducing downtime and operational costs.
