A VAPV (Pressure and Vacuum Relief Valve) is a device that automatically balances the internal pressure of a tank with the external atmospheric pressure or relieves internal pressures that exceed the tank’s design limits. In overpressure conditions (usually caused by tank filling, thermal expansion of the product, or chemical reactions), the valve opens to release excess vapor or gas. Conversely, in vacuum conditions (caused by tank emptying, product cooling, or vapor condensation), the valve allows air or inert gas to enter, preventing tank collapse. This dual-action mechanism is critical for stability and operational safety.
In addition to its pressure and vacuum relief function, Romão Tecnologias’ VAPVs are designed to prevent flame transmission into the tank in the event of an atmospheric deflagration. This means that, in the case of an external fire, the valve acts as a safety barrier, preventing flames from reaching the tank’s flammable contents—an essential differentiator for preventing large-scale accidents.
