What are VAPVs and How Do They Work?

A VAPV (Pressure and Vacuum Relief Valve) is a device that automatically balances the internal pressure of a tank with the external atmospheric pressure or relieves internal pressures that exceed the tank’s design limits. In overpressure conditions (usually caused by tank filling, thermal expansion of the product, or chemical reactions), the valve opens to release excess vapor or gas. Conversely, in vacuum conditions (caused by tank emptying, product cooling, or vapor condensation), the valve allows air or inert gas to enter, preventing tank collapse. This dual-action mechanism is critical for stability and operational safety.
